My Hometown

Everglades City is known for fishing, both recreational and commercial. Those of us who live here, I guess you could say it runs in our blood. My biggest fish was a 26-inch snook that I caught fishing in a tournament, “Hook Em’ in the Glades” tournament. The best tasting fish, in my opinion, is a snook! Fishing in Everglades City dates back decades, especially at The Rod and Gun Club, which has been around since 1923 and hosted many famous and prominent figures, even United States Presidents!

Everglades City was founded in the late 19th century and it evolved from a small fishing village. The region was originally inhabited by the Calusa people, whose civilization thrived in Southwest Florida around 2,000 years ago. The name was changed in 1965.

Today, Everglades City has airboat tours, fishing charters, and wildlife exploration. My personal favorite place is the Collier County Museum which use to be a laundry building.

Everglades City is rich with history and is a really awesome place to visit, and an incredible place to call home!
